African Grey color is very rare and will dramatically increase the price of your pet bird.

    The quality of an African Grey’s genetics will affect its price. You can do DNA testing if you are concerned about the genetic lineage of your bird. This might be a concern if you are considering pet bird breeding yourselves. Additionally, you can perform testing to check for diseases in the bird as well. Both of these will cost additional fees, you may also want to do genetic testing to ensure the African Grey is not a crossbreed. Crossbreeding is usually done between a Timneh and a Congo.

    Caring For An African Grey Parrot

    Perches should be placed low in the cage, especially for younger birds who may not be as steady when climbing. You will need to keep your parrot’s nails trimmed. These parrots have their first molt at about 8 months of age, and then at around 11 months will have the first serious molt which will be a yearly occurrence.
    Diet should consist of high-quality pellets and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, especially those with high levels of calcium and Vitamin A. The birds can be bred year-round and have a clutch of from 1 to 3 eggs.

    Diet

    At  Macaw Parrot Shop, we feed our African grey parrots feed on a variety of fruits, nuts, and vegetables.
    Seed-based diets are not recommended as they permit pet birds to select an imbalanced diet from what is offered.
    Formulated diets (“pellets” or “crumbles”) provide more complete and balanced nutrition, do not allow selective feeding, and should comprise about 75% of the diet
    Dark leafy greens, vegetables, and fruits can make up 20-25% of the diet
    Treats should be limited to only 5% of the diet
    Clean, fresh water should be provided daily
